NCSY Connects with Jewish teens through innovative, cutting-edge social and recreational programs to develop a positive Jewish identity.
Born into Mitzvah observant families in Lakewood, New Jersey, Yedidiah (DD) and Malkah Bracha were searching for an out of town community, where they could get to know people in depth. They were seeking a welcoming community where people are warm and everybody is important.
Passionate about connecting with Jewish teenagers, DD and Malkah Bracha moved to Calgary with a goal to develop within these young adults a positive Jewish identity and a sense of Jewish pride. Between DD’s ability to inspire and bring energy into a room full of people, and MB’s ability to teach classes and discover hidden potential within young women, they run learning programs, volunteering and traveling programs, they share meals together, and provide plenty of opportunities for teens to connect with each other.
Through the year they run out of town Shabbatons (i.e. Vancouver, Edmonton, Connecticut). Two times a year they run the Shabbat Shebang event. They also run weekly learning programs that provide a safe environment for the teens to interact, make friends, socialize and find answers for questions they have regarding Judaism.
By joining NCSY Calgary, a teen also joins a national and international social network of many other Jewish teens from all over the world!
NCSY programs are offered for grades 8-12. NCSY Junior is for grades 5-7, where the focus is on having fun and developing a relationship with other Jewish kids and of course the guides themselves.
